Do you want to lead a kitchen in New Zealand? A premium restaurant on the waterfront near Nelson is looking for a Sous Chef. This job is also called Assistant Kitchen Manager.
You will work closely with the Head Chef - Kitchen Manager. Together you run the kitchen every day. When the Head Chef is away, you are in charge. You also plan menus and specials and work out their cost, so the kitchen makes the right gross profit.
The job is permanent. You work at least 30 hours a week, including weekends and public holidays. You must have the right to work in New Zealand to apply. The employer is accredited and may be able to sponsor a work visa for the right person.

Key Responsibilities
- Run the kitchen every day with the Head Chef
- Lead the whole kitchen when the Head Chef is away
- Plan and cook menus and specials with the correct costing for gross profit
- Find and hire staff below management level, train them and plan their rosters
- Manage how each team member performs
- Keep cost of goods, wage cost and gross profit inside the budget, and order stock from suppliers with little waste and accurate counts
- Keep food safe and follow the Food Control Plan and kitchen systems
Requirements & Eligibility
- Level 5 National Diploma in Hospitality (Kitchen Management)
- Minimum 3 years of experience managing a kitchen
- Able to make budgets
- Able to do food costing
- Well organised and good with time
- Outstanding knowledge of local and international food and beverage
- Can use IT and cloud-based software, such as email, Word and Excel
- Right to work in New Zealand
