Workshop Technician

You will own production jobs and keep them organised, accurate and on time. The work mixes CNC operation with fitting, assembly, fabrication and coordinating jobs day to day. Reading engineering drawings, understanding what manufacturing needs, organising workshop tasks and making sure finished parts are ready for installation are all part of it.

This is not a narrow machine-minding role. It suits an all-rounder who wants to use technical knowledge and practical skill across the whole job.

Key Responsibilities

  • Study job specifications and engineering drawings to confirm what materials, sizes, tolerances and assembly steps are required
  • Plan workshop jobs and set production priorities
  • Run CNC machines and general metal fabrication equipment
  • Do fitting, assembly and fabrication work that meets the required specifications
  • Weld with basic MIG and TIG when the job calls for it
  • Measure and inspect finished parts to confirm accuracy, and fix any fabrication issues before items are dispatched
  • Get fabricated items and materials ready for installation on site, making sure site teams receive the right components, fasteners and materials
  • Keep communication clear with both workshop and site staff
  • Look after workshop machinery and equipment
  • Encourage safe, organised, efficient work in the workshop and keep cleanliness, quality and safety standards high
  • Visit installation sites now and then to help with fitting

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Solid experience across workshop operations, engineering or metal fabrication
  • Has operated CNC machinery
  • Reads and interprets engineering drawings without needing close supervision
  • Strong experience in fitting and assembly
  • Has coordinated or taken responsibility for workshop jobs
  • Basic welding skills in MIG and TIG
  • Excellent at measuring, with strong attention to detail
  • Understands fabrication processes and the sequencing of work, and can operate common fabrication machinery and engineering tools
  • Strong problem-solving skills in practical situations
  • Can manage priorities and work independently, with good teamwork and communication skills
  • Committed to quality, safety and accurate workmanship
  • Highly regarded: experience with CNC laser cutting, tube laser cutting, press brakes, drilling or grinding equipment
  • Available to start immediately or almost immediately
