Truck Mechanic

Heavy vehicles are your thing? A Queensland team that belongs to a long-running Australian heavy vehicle company needs capable Heavy Vehicle Mechanics. Show them genuine time in a workshop, hands-on skill at diagnosing faults and a habit of getting reliable results.

Expect a wide mix of tasks, from diagnosing and servicing to repairing, rebuilding and helping at breakdowns. Those who are selected receive continuing training with a manufacturer focus, use modern facilities and can move ahead in their technical careers.

Tip: gather your trade papers and references, and have Indonesian-language documents translated into English where the visa rules require it.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose problems in heavy commercial vehicles and their related systems, and sort out mechanical issues quickly
  • Handle routine services plus preventative maintenance
  • Replace components, rebuild units and carry out mechanical repairs, following manufacturer specifications
  • Check and test vehicles after repair work
  • Complete workshop records and job cards with accuracy
  • Travel to breakdowns at customer sites or other offsite locations as needed, and be part of the on-call roster
  • Hold yourself to high standards of safety, technical accuracy and workmanship
  • Cooperate with fellow technicians and the wider workshop crew
  • Support apprentices with hands-on training and development
  • Talk customers through the work that has been completed, professionally

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Heavy Vehicle Mechanic (recognised) qualification, or a relevant mechanical one
  • Proven practical background in heavy vehicle maintenance and repair
  • Can show and verify the trade experience you have had before
  • Strong at problem-solving and diagnosing mechanical faults
  • Understands safety and quality procedures in a workshop
  • Dependable and works as part of a team; communicates professionally and serves customers well
  • Car licence (current)
  • Desirable: HR licence
  • Desirable: forklift licence
  • Desirable: Kenworth or DAF experience
  • Applications are encouraged from experienced overseas heavy vehicle mechanics, and mechanics from interstate are welcome too
  • Apprentice mechanics in their second to fourth year may also be considered
  • Open to ongoing training, both technical and from manufacturers
  • Can give supporting documents for your work history and qualifications
  • Sponsorship on offer for eligible overseas candidates
