Support Workers

Trade · Christchurch Central, Canterbury, New Zealand · Full-Time · $25 - $35/hr

Your role is to help people with daily tasks, take part in their community, work towards wellbeing goals and grow as individuals. You may work in mental health, disability, community care or healthcare. Expect flexible arrangements, lots of variety and a real impact on people's lives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the people you support with day-to-day living, their own goals and joining in local activities
  • Care for people who live with a disability, mental health conditions or complex needs
  • Support clients in many kinds of community, residential and healthcare locations
  • Form trusting, respectful links with the people you support, their families and their wider networks
  • Keep calm and act professionally when things get hard or someone needs behavioural support
  • Protect each person's independence, dignity, wellbeing and inclusion, and motivate them to reach goals and live a meaningful life
  • Stick to care plans, workplace procedures and health and safety requirements
  • Record notes accurately and keep healthcare teams informed
  • Deliver reliable care that puts the person first, always to a professional standard

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 6 months' experience working as a Community Support Worker, Disability Support Worker, Healthcare Assistant or Mental Health Assistant, or in a similar job
  • Having supported people with complex needs, disabilities or mental health requirements before is highly regarded
  • Full New Zealand Driver's Licence; you should feel confident driving service vehicles where required
  • Able to commit to a regular roster and stay reliably available, with flexibility for different shifts and weekends when required
  • Can manage your availability responsibly and stay within safe working hour requirements
  • Caring, respectful and professional, with strong communication skills
  • Remains calm and effective in difficult situations
  • Dedicated to high-quality, person-centred support
  • Comfortable working across community, disability, mental health and healthcare settings
