Paint and panel people, take note. An automotive business in Rodney, Auckland, New Zealand is hiring for permanent, full-time work. It wants an experienced Automotive Spray Painter, plus a Paintshop Prepper / Assistant.
The painter's main focus is great finishes, again and again, with accurate colour matching and quick, efficient refinishing. The prep role can suit someone who already has preparation experience. It can also suit a motivated beginner who hopes to grow their trade skills and maybe move into an apprenticeship.

Key Responsibilities
- Painter role — spray paint and refinish cars, matching and blending colours as you go
- Painter role — get vehicles and panels into shape for the final coat
- Painter role — aim for a smooth, top-quality result on every job, and check each finished job meets the workshop's quality standards
- Painter role — take care with every detail of prep and paint, while keeping pace with production deadlines
- Painter role — manage your own tasks independently but help the team get more done
- Prep role — sand, mask and ready surfaces, panels and vehicles to be refinished, and help with priming
- Prep role — back up the painters throughout the day so jobs flow well through the shop
- Prep role — take on general paintshop tasks as required
- Prep role — gain practical know-how in automotive refinishing by doing the work, growing your technical ability with a view to a possible apprenticeship or career progression
- Everyone — keep tools, equipment, work areas and the paintshop tidy, and stick to workplace health, safety and quality procedures
Requirements & Eligibility
- For Spray Painter applicants: a proven background in automotive spray painting
- Refinishing and colour-matching skills you have demonstrated
- Able to turn out consistent, professional finishes
- Strong attention to detail
- Relevant hands-on experience in automotive prep and refinishing processes
- For Prepper / Assistant applicants, earlier paint prep experience is advantageous; knowing how to sand, mask and prime is beneficial
- You work quickly and keep to production deadlines
- You are reliable, you arrive on time, and you motivate yourself
- A strong drive to work hard and a positive outlook
- Comfortable working as part of a team
- Keen to pick up and develop new technical skills
- Candidates must be able to prove that their work experience is genuine and relevant
