Restaurant Manager

Can you lead a whole restaurant floor, not just one shift? A busy venue in Christchurch Central, Canterbury, New Zealand, needs an experienced Restaurant Manager. The job is permanent and full-time.

The owners want a true hospitality leader. Your skills, your history and your professional background should clearly fit the job. You will be in charge of how front-of-house performs, how the staff grow and how steady the service is.

You will connect the managers, the floor staff and the guests. With you there, everyone knows the service standard, the team feels backed up and each guest enjoys the same good experience. Tip: prepare an English-language CV that shows your management roles and dates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take charge of front-of-house results and work with management to make operations smoother and more consistent
  • Guide a mixed team of local and international hospitality workers, coaching them so service and performance get stronger
  • Set clear service and operating standards, apply workplace policies the same way every time and give the team helpful feedback
  • Run the opening and closing routines, including the daily cash-up and money handling
  • Look after reservations and booking needs, and control guest flow so peak times still run well
  • Help managers build rosters and staff schedules
  • Keep Directors and General Management informed with clear, regular updates
  • Spot problems with service and act quickly to fix them
  • Get to know guests, bring them back again and support ideas that lift customer satisfaction and revenue
  • Make sure liquor is served responsibly and every relevant requirement is met
  • Keep the workplace friendly, positive and professional

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in restaurant management or a similar senior hospitality job
  • Proven front-of-house management, and a record of leading, training and developing hospitality staff
  • Strong understanding of busy restaurants with multiple sittings, and the ability to manage guest flow in peak trading
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a mature, professional style of managing people
  • Strong customer service and good at building relationships
  • Working knowledge of hospitality service standards and a sound understanding of liquor service and licensing compliance
  • Strong decision-making and organisation, and able to stay calm and effective under pressure
  • Willing to learn the venue's own products, systems and procedures
  • Flexible availability for weekend and evening work
  • Able to work a minimum of 30 hours per week over 5 days
  • Hospitality work experience that is genuine and verifiable
  • Candidates must be able to give suitable information or documents about their professional background where required
