Registered Teacher

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to every infant with respect, matching care to what each child needs
  • Support each baby's own routines for sleep, comfort, care and wellbeing
  • Build trusting, meaningful connections with tamariki, and talk with whanau in a consistent, professional way
  • Set up a room that feels secure, stimulating and welcoming for infants
  • Design experiences that spark exploration and growth
  • Notice what children are interested in, how they behave and how they are developing, then plan intentional teaching from those observations
  • Record learning stories, assessments and other documentation accurately
  • Honour the cultures, languages, identities and backgrounds of all tamariki
  • Weave culturally responsive approaches through each day's teaching, and strengthen bicultural practice that follows Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Partner with colleagues to keep high standards of care and education, in a team that is positive, respectful and collaborative
  • Contribute to meetings, team discussions, centre activities and the daily running of the centre
  • Regularly look back on your practice to find areas to improve
  • Engage in professional learning and add to a culture of continuous development

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Holds a recognised Early Childhood Education qualification
  • New Zealand Teacher Practising Certificate (full and current)
  • Relevant experience in early childhood education, with infants in particular
  • Deep understanding of responsive caregiving and of infant development and learning
  • Genuinely passionate about supporting young children and babies
  • Has shown they can build positive relationships with whanau and tamariki
  • Communicates strongly both in writing and verbally
  • Confident with observation, documentation, assessment and planning
  • Can demonstrate culturally responsive teaching, and is committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and bicultural practice
  • Reflective, adaptable, calm, organised and professional
  • Works effectively in an education team and is willing to take on ongoing professional development
  • Accredited employment and visa sponsorship may be considered for candidates who need them
  • Applicants must satisfy relevant New Zealand registration, employment and immigration requirements
