Registered Midwife

Your identity as a midwife deserves respect. A private maternity service in Tasmania is looking for Registered Midwives with experience and real dedication. Here, your skills, training and clinical background will be valued, and you will be supported.

Midwives are central to how care is given in this service. You will team up with skilled health workers to look after women and their families during pregnancy, labour and birth, and the postnatal weeks.

You will get structured support on the ward, a mentor and professional development, so you can build deeper expertise in caring for mothers and newborns. Please note: visa sponsorship is considered for eligible applicants who are already onshore, so check this point before you apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Give midwifery care that is safe, respectful and based on evidence
  • Provide full care before birth, during labour and after birth (antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal)
  • Support each woman in labour and birth, respecting her wishes and care plan
  • Check and monitor the health of mothers and babies, and report clinical concerns quickly through the right channels
  • Teach women and their families what to expect, and support them emotionally
  • Assist with baby care, and support mothers as they start breastfeeding and parenting
  • Keep patient records and clinical notes accurate
  • Work together with obstetric, nursing, neonatal and allied health teams
  • Take part in clinical training and ongoing learning, and help raise the quality of care in a positive maternity unit
  • Guide student and graduate midwives when appropriate

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Current registration as a Registered Midwife with AHPRA
  • Recognised Midwifery qualification and demonstrated experience providing maternity care
  • Strong commitment to evidence-based and woman-centred practice
  • Excellent skills in communication and in working with people
  • Can work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
  • Keeps professional knowledge and clinical competencies current, and is committed to doing so
  • Any experience in birth suite, antenatal, postnatal or special care nursery work is highly regarded
  • Available for permanent full-time, part-time or casual hours
  • Eligible onshore applicants requiring visa sponsorship will be considered
  • Can satisfy Australian professional registration and employment requirements
