Quality Assurance Manager

Food safety is serious work, and this employer knows it. An established Australian food processing organisation is recruiting a Quality Assurance Manager for its site in New South Wales. The goal is stronger quality, food safety and compliance operations.

In this role you protect the food safety systems, the regulatory rules, what customers expect and the company's own internal standards, every single day. To do this well, you need real technical knowledge, good judgement and a willingness to own quality outcomes.

Selection is based on qualifications, professional background and hands-on quality expertise. Qualified people in Australia or abroad can use this role to move forward in the Australian food industry. Mentoring, structured onboarding and career development are offered to an experienced QA professional who is ready for bigger operational responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Head the site's whole quality assurance and food safety function
  • Make sure the quality management and food safety systems stay effective
  • Review the Approved Arrangements and related compliance steps, and make them better
  • Keep the operation compliant with every applicable Australian regulatory and food safety requirement
  • Organise audit programs (internal, customer and regulatory) so the site is ready for an audit at all times
  • Look into non-conformances, process failures and quality incidents, and drive corrective and preventive actions to a proper close-out
  • Carry out verification programs, traceability exercises and mock recalls
  • Keep compliance information, records and quality documentation correct
  • Compare production processes with the set quality and food safety standards, and lead hygiene, pre-operational and process verification activities
  • Lead the QA team each day, give technical direction, and coach and grow QA personnel so quality performance improves site-wide
  • Build a strong food safety culture where every worker feels accountable
  • Spot ways to strengthen operational controls, processes and quality systems, and fix compliance and quality issues in partnership with the production and management teams
  • Back the relevant industry standards and animal welfare requirements

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Holds a relevant qualification in Agricultural Science, Food Science, Food Technology, Quality Management or a comparable discipline
  • Relevant international qualifications and professional experience will be considered
  • Background in quality assurance, compliance, food safety or food manufacturing at a professional level
  • Hands-on knowledge of HACCP principles and of systems for managing food safety
  • Has led or supported quality audits, customer audits or regulatory audits
  • Shows they can trace why non-conformances happen and fix them with effective solutions
  • Has managed corrective and preventive actions
  • Strong grasp of the procedures for quality documentation, verification and traceability
  • Keeps high standards inside a regulated production setting
  • Previous experience supervising, coordinating or developing people in quality roles
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving
  • Confident in communication and in managing stakeholders
  • Collaborates effectively with production teams and senior management
  • Food processing or export industry experience is advantageous; meat processing, DAFF compliance or Approved Arrangements experience is highly regarded
  • Commitment to meeting Australian compliance, food safety and workplace standards
  • A suitable overseas candidate can receive visa sponsorship
