Building a solid engineering career takes proven delivery on real projects, technical depth and a professional history, not just a degree. A construction company in Queensland (QLD) is growing and wants an accomplished Senior Project Engineer to join its team in Brisbane.
You will own the coordination of projects, guide others on technical matters and play a confident part in completing complex civil construction works. Selection looks at your qualifications, engineering background, project exposure and how well you suit the role.
This permanent role follows a 2/1 DIDO/BIBO roster. You get a competitive package: base salary plus superannuation, project uplift, a work vehicle and a KPI bonus. Tip: list your major civil projects clearly in an English-language CV.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on safety by promoting high standards in all project work
- Steer the engineering side of large civil construction projects and back the Project Manager so jobs finish safely, efficiently and on schedule
- Make sure the work on site matches the approved drawings, specs, budgets and project needs
- Build and maintain project plans, programs and construction schedules, and plan the order of works to fit the approved program
- Advise site personnel and project teams on engineering and technical questions
- Check and interpret civil, structural and services drawings
- Pick up technical problems early and see each technical query through to a solution
- Assist with buying in and engaging subcontractors and suppliers, and monitor how they perform, what they cost and what they deliver
- Keep an eye on quality, making sure quality control steps are applied
- Help manage project costs and budgets, and produce monthly financial reports with cost-to-complete forecasts
- Flag risks, construction problems and likely delays, and liaise closely with project managers, supervisors, subcontractors, suppliers and other stakeholders
Requirements & Eligibility
- You hold a Civil Engineering Degree or an equivalent qualification
- You have a minimum 7 years' engineering experience in civil infrastructure or construction
- You have demonstrated involvement in delivering major civil projects, and a strong grasp of civil construction methodologies
- You read civil, structural and services drawings confidently
- You have handled technical queries and resolved engineering issues before
- You bring sound knowledge of how construction is planned, scheduled and sequenced
- You have managed subcontractor and supplier budgets, and you have strong commercial and project management awareness
- You understand the systems used for quality assurance and quality control
- Your communication and stakeholder management skills are excellent, and your commitment to workplace health and safety is demonstrated
- You can work the 2/1 DIDO/BIBO roster
- You have relevant Australian work rights or are eligible for employer sponsorship, which is available to suitably qualified and experienced candidates
