Production Manager

This is a senior leadership role in solar salt. A growing industrial operation in Queensland, Australia is hiring a Production Manager who is capable and commercially minded. The person will lead the salt operation and help shape what comes next for the business.
Output is over 200,000 tonnes a year, so this is a large site. Your area runs from the seawater intake right through to the final stockpile. You will manage 10+ employees and be accountable for efficiency, product quality, inventory and operating costs.
Seasons and weather affect the work every day. Sound decisions, practical leadership and strong technical understanding are needed. Tip: an English-language CV that clearly describes your past production roles helps employers understand your experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Keep accurate records for production and the stockpile
- Manage solar salt production end to end, from the intake of seawater to the finished product
- Supervise each stage: pumping, evaporation, crystallisation, harvesting, washing and the stockpile
- Build production plans that match seasonal conditions and the weather forecast
- Watch for operational risks caused by changes in the weather and manage them
- Lead the production and mobile plant team of 10+ employees, developing them through cross-training and multi-skilling
- Monitor cost-per-tonne, inventory and production volumes, keeping commercial responsibility for efficiency and operating costs
- Check that finished salt meets the established quality specifications
- Spot constraints in production and solve them in practical ways
- Be the main escalation point for technical and process challenges
- Help deliver capital projects and improvements to field and plant infrastructure
- Find ways to boost efficiency, reliability and production resilience, together with technical consultants and in-house specialists
- Contribute to growing and improving the site over the long term
Requirements & Eligibility
- Highly desirable: demonstrated experience in solar salt production
- If your solar salt production experience is international, you are encouraged to apply
- Your technical knowledge of evaporation and crystallisation processes is strong
- Qualifications in chemical engineering, chemistry or a similar technical field may be considered if you have demonstrated relevant production experience
- You have a proven record of leading industrial, processing or production operations
- You have managed and developed frontline teams that are multi-skilled
- Your understanding of operational KPIs, inventory control and production costs is strong
- You make effective decisions when conditions shift with the weather
- Your analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities are strong, and you show commercial awareness and operational accountability
- Your skills in leadership, communication and managing people are strong
- You can work on your own while still collaborating with technical support teams
- You are willing to relocate to regional Queensland, live on-site and commit to a long-term role in a growing Australian operation
