Product Engineer

Do you enjoy turning new electronic products into real, mass-produced items? A leading global technology company in Auckland, New Zealand, is hiring a Product Engineer – New Product Introduction (NPI).

You will help take innovative electronic products from the first idea all the way to full-scale production. You will work closely with the engineering, quality, supply chain and manufacturing teams. Together you will build efficient manufacturing processes, raise product quality and keep production running at a high level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide new products from the prototype stage into full production
  • Work with the engineering, quality, purchasing and manufacturing teams during product development
  • Create, validate and improve manufacturing processes for electronic and mechanical products
  • Look after manufacturing test systems, fixtures and production equipment
  • Use structured root cause analysis to investigate manufacturing, testing and product quality problems, then put corrective and preventive actions in place
  • Study production data to find ways to improve efficiency, quality and cost
  • Back lean manufacturing work and continuous process improvement projects
  • Write and update engineering documents, manufacturing procedures, test plans and engineering change documents
  • Partner with suppliers and manufacturing partners on production readiness and ongoing improvement
  • Give technical support on the production floor, help with sustaining engineering and travel overseas now and then when required

Requirements & Eligibility

  • You hold a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or another related engineering discipline
  • You have a minimum of 5 years of experience in electronics and mechanical manufacturing environments
  • You have a strong understanding of new product introduction (NPI) and manufacturing readiness processes
  • You have developed, supported or troubleshot manufacturing test fixtures and production equipment
  • You know electronics manufacturing, assembly processes, quality systems and inventory management
  • You can analyse manufacturing processes and bring in productivity and quality improvements
  • PCB assembly manufacturing and electronic production testing experience is highly desirable, and familiarity with engineering documentation or product lifecycle management systems is advantageous
  • You have excellent analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • You communicate strongly, in professional English, and work well across cross-functional teams
  • You are willing to travel internationally from time to time
