Key Responsibilities
- Look at each damaged vehicle and read its job sheet before you begin
- Check that delivered parts are the right ones, fit for the job and have no defects
- Strip vehicles down as the repair instructions and job ask, taking off damaged panels, frames and other components
- Fix or replace panels and structural parts, then fit them back on
- Do metal work such as shaping, cutting, straightening, welding and fabrication, using suitable workshop tools and methods
- Help with rust treatment, frame alignment and structural repair when needed
- Put on body filler, then sand and prepare surfaces
- Rebuild each vehicle with care once the repair is finished
- Make sure every finished job reaches the required quality and industry standards
- Treat customer and company vehicles carefully at all times
- Use tools and equipment the right way, keep them safe, clean and working, and keep your own area tidy, organised and safe
- Follow every workplace health and safety procedure, including wearing PPE
- Work well with teammates so the workshop runs smoothly, and keep learning current repair methods and industry practices
Requirements & Eligibility
- A Panel Beater trade qualification that is recognised, or equivalent industry experience
- Proven background in smash repairs and automotive panel beating
- You can show and verify your past work experience and your professional identity, and you are willing to take part in the employer's candidate verification and assessment process
- Strong knowledge of how to repair vehicle bodies and replace panels
- Hands-on experience in welding, cutting, metal shaping and fabrication
- Understanding of frame alignment, rust treatment and structural repair
- Experience with sanding, surface preparation and applying body filler
- Can take vehicle components apart and put them back together accurately
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work
- Safe, responsible use of tools and workshop equipment, plus commitment to following workplace safety and OH&S requirements
- Good communication and teamwork skills, with a reliable, motivated and professional attitude
