Operations Manager

Ready for a senior step? This operations role in Christchurch Central, Canterbury, is for an experienced technical professional. Your job is to turn technical ability into reliable delivery on site, across several locations in New Zealand. You will coordinate people and resources, manage performance, protect compliance and step in yourself when technical oversight is needed.
Your hands-on background counts. So do your judgement, your commercial sense and your ability to lead people in different places while keeping things consistent.

Key Responsibilities
- Run daily technical operations at several sites
- Plan staff and resources around scheduled compliance and inspection programmes, and work out future capability and resource needs
- Give clear direction to a technical team spread across different locations
- Make technical quality, safety and service consistent everywhere
- Track utilisation, job margins and work in progress
- Match each assignment with an inspector who has the right experience and capability
- Keep tight control of authorised work scopes and accreditation requirements
- Build a strong health and safety culture in the field
- Take charge of complex or escalated client issues, and supervise on site when extra expertise or capacity is required
- Partner with the technical services, compliance and finance teams
- Drive continuous improvement in processes, and help the business grow sustainably without lowering technical standards
Requirements & Eligibility
- Proven experience leading or managing a field-based or technical team
- A strong hands-on trade or technical background, with a relevant trade, technical or tertiary qualification
- Proven ability to plan and prioritise work under pressure
- Commercial understanding of job costing, utilisation, margins and work in progress
- Able to lead experienced professionals and keep standards clear
- Sound grasp of technical scope, authorisation and compliance
- Experience working under ISO/IEC 17020 or ISO/IEC 17025 is advantageous
- Experience in electricity distribution or a related technical industry is advantageous
- Strong communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Experience handling client relationships and escalated issues
- Full driver's licence, and willing to travel between sites when required
- International candidates with relevant, verifiable technical experience are encouraged to apply
