Motor Mechanic

You will use your technical skills every day on vehicle diagnosis, servicing, maintenance and repair. The employer checks each candidate carefully. Your qualifications, practical experience and technical skills need to be verified and matched to what the role needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Find faults in engines, transmissions, steering and other mechanical systems, using computerised diagnostic equipment where needed
  • Look closely at mechanical parts for faults, wear and damage
  • Take out and strip down engines, transmissions and other assemblies when the job calls for it
  • Fix, replace or rebuild parts that are worn or faulty, working to the required technical standards
  • Do routine services and preventative maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, tune-ups and scheduled maintenance
  • Read technical information and the manufacturer's service specifications
  • Test and adjust repaired parts until they work correctly
  • Inspect vehicles and list the work they need to stay roadworthy
  • Check how each vehicle performs after a service or repair
  • Keep the workshop safe, clean and well organised
  • Share the workload with the workshop team so every job gets done efficiently
  • Give dependable workmanship, with vehicle safety and happy customers always in mind

Requirements & Eligibility

  • You hold a Certificate III or higher in Motor Mechanics, Automotive Technology or a related field
  • You have a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional automotive experience
  • You can show hands-on experience with mechanical servicing and repairs
  • You are strong at diagnosing vehicle faults and troubleshooting
  • You have used computerised automotive diagnostic systems
  • You have sound knowledge of engines, transmissions, steering and other mechanical systems
  • You can work from technical manuals and manufacturer specifications
  • You solve practical problems well and pay a high level of attention to detail and quality
  • You can work alone and also in a professional workshop team
  • You have good communication and workplace skills
  • You can provide evidence of your relevant qualifications and work history
  • Overseas applicants must be willing to go through the required assessment and recruitment process, and candidates must meet the relevant requirements for the applicable visa pathway
