Motor Mechanic

Do you enjoy fixing modern cars, including European models? An established automotive workshop in Wallan, Victoria, is looking for a Motor Mechanic – Light Vehicle with real practical experience.

You should be able to diagnose, service and repair modern vehicles with confidence. The employer focuses on trade skills that can be checked and on real workshop experience. You will need to show a practical understanding of vehicle systems, accurate fault finding and safe, efficient repairs.

The workshop works on many kinds of vehicles, especially European brands with advanced diagnostic systems. It is a chance to use the skills you already have on different vehicle technologies.

Tip: translate Indonesian-language trade papers into English if the visa rules require it.

Key Responsibilities

  • Do routine services and preventative maintenance, including engine oil, filter and general service steps
  • Use modern diagnostic equipment to find mechanical and electrical faults
  • Check vehicle systems to find out what is causing a fault
  • Service and repair petrol engines and their parts
  • Inspect and repair transmissions
  • Fix and maintain brakes, suspension and steering
  • Replace mechanical parts that are faulty, worn or damaged
  • Strip down and inspect engines, transmissions and other assemblies
  • Repair vehicles following the technical procedures, manufacturer specifications and service information
  • Inspect each vehicle before and after a repair, and road test it to confirm the work
  • Keep job and parts records accurate
  • Follow the workshop's safety and quality procedures
  • Keep your tools, equipment and work area clean and tidy
  • Talk clearly with workshop colleagues about repairs and what each vehicle needs

Requirements & Eligibility

  • You hold a recognised Motor Mechanic – Light Vehicle trade qualification or equivalent
  • You have a minimum of 12 months of relevant automotive workshop experience
  • You can show practical experience servicing and repairing light vehicles
  • You have working knowledge of modern mechanical and electrical vehicle systems
  • You are strong at diagnosing faults and choosing the right repairs
  • You have worked on engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspension and steering
  • You can follow technical repair information and manufacturer specifications
  • You pay strong attention to detail and are committed to reliable workmanship
  • You hold a current driver's licence
  • You can work on your own and in a team, communicate professionally and keep a positive attitude at work, and stay efficient in a busy workshop
  • European vehicle experience will be highly regarded, and experience with Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, BMW or Mercedes-Benz will be advantageous
  • You are willing and able to give evidence of your qualifications and work history
  • You can meet the requirements for the sponsorship on offer
