Motor Mechanic

An established automotive business in Alice Springs, NT needs a qualified Light Vehicle Mechanic. If you are reliable and have real experience with servicing, fault finding, maintenance and mechanical repairs, this could suit you.
Your work is simple to describe: find what is wrong with each vehicle, fix it efficiently and do it to a high standard. Safety, good workmanship and friendly customer service all matter here.
The first contract runs for 6 months. Full-time and part-time options are both available. If you perform well and the business needs it, the job may become permanent. The employer prefers IELTS Band 6 or above, so it is smart to plan your English test early.
Key Responsibilities
- Find vehicle faults and confirm them with testing and inspection
- Check mechanical and electronic components and pick out worn or faulty parts
- Repair engines, transmissions, steering and brake systems
- Do wheel alignments and air-conditioning repairs and servicing
- Complete routine services and preventative maintenance to the service specifications
- Inspect, diagnose and fix vehicles after accidents or for restoration work
- Make sure vehicles are roadworthy, safe and meet the applicable state regulations
- Write detailed records of every inspection, service, repair and maintenance task
- Work with the vehicle operations team so vehicles are free for customer bookings
- Decide which spare parts are needed, help manage workshop stock, and tell management about technical findings, repair needs and estimated costs
- Keep the workshop clean, tidy and safe under WorkSafe requirements, and finish tasks efficiently with steady quality, reliability and attention to detail, alone or with the wider team
Requirements & Eligibility
- Recognised trade qualification in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years of relevant professional work as a Motor Mechanic
- Demonstrated hands-on experience in vehicle diagnosis, servicing and repairs, including inspecting and diagnosing mechanical and electronic vehicle systems
- Current driver's licence
- Strong English skills, spoken and written
- IELTS Band 6 or above preferred
- Can clearly explain technical problems, repair choices and estimated costs
- Strong analytical and diagnostic ability, with excellent problem-solving and decision-making
- Good organisation and time management
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Works well on your own and in a team, and is committed to workplace safety and vehicle roadworthiness
