Your experience should come with recognised credentials and true skill on structural steel. People who are careful with measurements, work safely and pull together as a team will fit in well here.
Eligible applicants can receive skilled visa sponsorship once they pass a skills assessment and an interview. Keep your trade certificates ready, with English translations of any Indonesian documents.
Key Responsibilities
- Make sense of welding symbols, structural plans and fabrication specifications
- Work out each on-site fabrication job using the work order and what the project requires
- Set up the steel, hand tools and portable fabrication machines you need
- Take measurements, mark out and cut steel members precisely
- Form, straighten and bend plate and steel sections into shape
- Fit steel members together with bolts and welds, starting with tack welds and finishing with full structural welds; weld with MMAW, GMAW, FCAW and GTAW processes as needed
- Lift components into place safely, working alongside the riggers and using lifting gear
- Alter steelwork already in place by drilling, cutting and welding it
- Meet quality standards and follow safe practices on busy building sites
Requirements & Eligibility
- Trade qualification in fabrication or boilermaking that is recognised
- Minimum three years of post-trade experience with structural steel
- Proven competency in MMAW, GMAW and FCAW welding
- Can interpret structural engineering drawings as well as welding specifications
- Current White Card
- Current Working at Heights certification
- Physically able to do on-site fabrication work, even when conditions are demanding
- Current driver's licence
- Transport you can rely on
- Australian work rights, or you are eligible for Skills in Demand (subclass 482) sponsorship
- Skilled visa sponsorship is offered to eligible candidates once they complete a successful skills assessment and interview process
