Key Responsibilities
- Give caring, person-centred mental health nursing and clinical care of a high standard
- Carry out full mental health and psychiatric assessments
- Write a care plan for each person, put it in place and check how well it works
- Watch each patient's progress and keep clinical notes correct and up to date
- Give medicines and treatments as the clinical guidelines say
- Help patients in a crisis and give them therapeutic support
- Work closely with psychiatrists, medical officers and other health teams, including in case reviews, care planning and discharge planning
- Teach and support patients, families and carers as they plan for recovery
- Keep patients safe, follow mental health law and clinical standards, and protect patient privacy with ethical, professional practice
- Help improve the quality of care, and keep learning through education and professional development
Requirements & Eligibility
- Bachelor of Nursing or an equivalent recognised qualification
- Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse, or eligibility to obtain registration
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in mental health nursing or mental health clinical practice
- Strong knowledge of psychiatric assessment and the principles of mental health care, plus a sound understanding of relevant Australian mental health legislation and clinical practice standards
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Works well in a multidisciplinary healthcare team
- Strong problem-solving and clinical decision-making
- Committed to giving high-quality care centred on the patient
- Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing will be highly regarded; willing to relocate to Australia
