Key Responsibilities
- Take the lead on, or contribute to, mechanical design for many building and infrastructure jobs
- Prepare detailed designs, calculations, specs, reports and the paperwork behind them
- Guide each assignment from first design and coordination to final delivery, watching deliverables, deadlines, technical needs and quality the whole way
- Handle projects in commercial, residential, healthcare, industrial and other kinds of development
- Study what each job needs technically and work out solutions that work
- Make sure mechanical services fit with the architectural, structural, electrical and other project disciplines
- Deal with clients and stakeholders directly, learn their needs, deliver suitable engineering outcomes and grow lasting relationships with them
- Check technical work so it is accurate, safe, compliant and of good quality
- Go to project meetings, design reviews, site inspections and coordination sessions as required
- Advise project teams on technical and practical engineering issues, and pass your knowledge on to colleagues so they grow
- Spot new project openings and back business development, while upholding professional engineering standards, keeping up with current practice and improving how things are done
Requirements & Eligibility
- Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering (or an equivalent that is recognised)
- A substantial professional background in mechanical building services, industrial engineering or engineering consultancy
- A demonstrated record of carrying projects from design to completion, and of handling projects that vary in scope, complexity and delivery demands
- Deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles and design methods, plus proven technical, analytical and problem-solving strength
- A strong communicator who works effectively with clients and project stakeholders, with a demonstrated knack for building and maintaining professional relationships
- Good at balancing competing priorities and hitting agreed deadlines
- Firm commitment to quality, safety, compliance and practical engineering outcomes
- Effective as a member of a collaborative professional team
- Commercial awareness, plus interest in developing client and business opportunities
- Chartered Professional Engineer status, or being actively on the way to chartership, is advantageous
- Happy to have qualifications, employment history, professional experience and relevant credentials checked
- Professional in attitude and committed to ongoing learning and career development, sharing values of quality, support, flexibility, teamwork and a positive workplace
- Able to meet the requirements to obtain a suitable New Zealand work visa
- Sponsorship on offer to a suitably qualified candidate
