Mechanic

This Mechanic role is in Western Australia, at a specialised maintenance site linked to aviation. You will look after fleet vehicles plus Ground Support Equipment (GSE). Every day can be different, so it suits someone who enjoys more than standard workshop jobs. Diagnosis, mechanical repairs and breakdown work are all part of it.

A job title on your CV is not enough here. The employer looks for qualified mechanics who can prove practical skill, solid technical knowledge and a good professional record.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose problems in diesel, hydraulic and mechanical systems, then repair them correctly
  • Carry out inspections, servicing and maintenance on fleet vehicles and specialised machines
  • Look after GSE and other special fleet assets
  • Complete both scheduled preventative work and corrective repairs
  • Respond quickly to breakdowns and urgent jobs, and support co-workers when they service, repair or attend breakdowns
  • Inspect equipment to find possible mechanical issues before they grow
  • Make sure each repair meets safety and quality standards
  • Record your service and maintenance work clearly and correctly, and tell the team about finished jobs, faults found and further repairs required
  • Work independently and stay in clear contact with your team
  • Keep your tools and gear in good, safe condition, and follow all workplace, operational and aviation safety procedures
  • Represent the organisation in a professional way with clients and people on site

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Trade qualification: Light Vehicle Mechanic or Heavy Diesel Mechanic
  • Preferred: about 5 years or more in relevant industry work
  • Real hands-on mechanical work with light or heavy vehicles, plus the ability to prove genuine practical trade experience
  • A current HR Driver's Licence
  • Good at finding mechanical faults and diagnosing them
  • Reliable and professional, and careful about safety and quality
  • Happy to work alone or in a team; communicates well and stays organised
  • Can get a Police Clearance
  • Can get an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)
  • Can complete drug and alcohol screening successfully
  • Comfortable in a specialised workplace where safety is critical
  • Advantageous: heavy equipment or fleet maintenance experience
  • Experience in diesel mechanics is advantageous; experience with hydraulic systems is also advantageous
  • Breakdown maintenance experience (advantageous) and welding skills (advantageous)
  • Advantageous: experience with Ground Support Equipment or in the aviation sector
