Maintenance Foreperson

Do you have hands-on road maintenance experience? Your skills should lead you to the right job, not just another advert. A Roading Maintenance Supervisor (Maintenance Foreperson) is needed in Marlborough, New Zealand.

You will be in charge of daily road maintenance work. You will lead from the front, organise a small team and handle priorities that change often across a busy and demanding road network. Some call-outs happen at night.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be part of the on-call roster. This means answering emergency call-outs and night-time incidents, including animals on the road and other urgent issues
  • Guide a small roading crew with hands-on, practical leadership
  • Set out the daily work programme and rank maintenance jobs by priority
  • Oversee both routine and urgent maintenance across the road network
  • Inspect road surfaces for defects, hazards and safety risks, and work out the correct repair for each problem
  • Enter defect and maintenance data on tablets and GPS systems
  • Coordinate emergency responses and fast road repairs
  • Keep an eye on the quality of work, how the crew is performing and contractor activities
  • Meet all health, safety and traffic management requirements
  • Communicate with clients, contractors and operational teams so maintenance programmes are delivered well
  • Decide on operational matters by yourself when the situation needs it

Requirements & Eligibility

  • You hold a Class 2 New Zealand driver's licence or equivalent
  • You have proven experience in road maintenance or civil construction
  • You have worked before in a roading role at supervisory or foreman level
  • You have a strong understanding of the materials used to build roads and of maintenance techniques
  • You have shown you can lead and coordinate a small crew
  • You communicate well, get on with people, and are strong at planning, organising and making decisions
  • You can work independently in an environment that keeps changing
  • You are comfortable using tablets, GPS and basic computer systems (AWM or RAMM experience is highly advantageous)
  • You are strongly committed to workplace health and safety and understand traffic management requirements
  • You stay calm and respond effectively when there is an emergency
  • Relevant roading experience gained internationally will be considered
  • You can provide employment, qualification and experience records that can be verified
  • Sponsorship is available for international candidates who are suitable
