Machinist

Trade · Malaga, Perth WA, Australia · Full-Time · $45 - $55/hr

Are you a First Class Machinist who enjoys precise work? A specialist engineering and manufacturing company in Western Australia wants someone with proven technical skill, solid workshop experience and a strong grasp of precision manufacturing.

You should be confident working from engineering drawings, setting and running CNC equipment, doing manual machining and turning out parts that meet demanding standards. A background in manufacturing for mining, energy, marine or defence will count for a lot. If your trade experience is genuine and can be verified, you are encouraged to apply.

Tip: if you plan to work in Australia from Indonesia, prepare an English-language CV listing the machines and controls you use.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, program and run CNC machining centres and CNC lathes to suit each job
  • Work on Okuma or equivalent CNC machines, using One-Touch programming when needed
  • Study engineering drawings, specifications and machining requirements, and decide on the tooling, materials and processes to use
  • Operate manual lathes plus conventional machining gear
  • Make precision metal parts that meet the required specifications
  • Examine every finished part to confirm it is accurate and of good quality
  • Spot and troubleshoot problems with machining or equipment
  • Look after routine machine maintenance and housekeeping
  • Keep workshop practices safe and organised
  • Stick to the set quality and production procedures
  • Work at a good pace to hit production schedules and project needs

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Trade-qualified in Metal Machining (recognised qualification) or equivalent
  • Post-trade machining experience of at least 3 years
  • Strong hands-on CNC machining experience, including running CNC lathes and machining centres
  • Experience on Okuma is highly desirable
  • Experience with One-Touch programming is advantageous
  • Confident at reading and interpreting technical drawings
  • Can show genuine employment and trade experience that can be verified
  • Strong attention to quality and precision
  • A Forklift LF Class licence is preferred
  • An Australian Driver’s Licence is preferred
  • Able to complete pre-employment medical requirements and drug and alcohol screening
  • Full Australian work rights, or eligible for employer sponsorship
