HVAC Service Technician

Do you fix chillers and big air conditioning systems? A well-known HVAC and refrigeration company in Waikato, New Zealand needs an experienced HVAC/Refrigeration Service Technician. You will handle hard service and maintenance jobs and be responsible for them.
The company wants real commercial experience with HVAC, refrigeration, chillers and central plant systems. You should find faults quickly, choose the right fix and work well at many kinds of customer sites. Your papers, work history and hands-on skills must match what you say you can do, because they will be checked.

Key Responsibilities
- Join the after-hours callout roster when it is your turn
- Check, service and fix commercial air conditioning and refrigeration systems
- Do planned and preventative maintenance on all HVAC equipment
- Look after central plant chilled water systems and solve problems in them
- Work on VRF/VRV systems, air-cooled and water-cooled chillers, and DX and chilled water process cooling equipment
- Find the cause of faults in compressors, fan motors, refrigerant circuits and other parts, then decide on the best repair
- Install new HVAC and refrigeration systems, commission them and start them up
- Read construction drawings, technical documents and equipment specifications
- Do ACR copper pipework and welding when needed, plus pressure tests and system evacuation
- Carry out authorised electrical isolation, disconnection and reconnection
- Set and calibrate temperature controls, and use HVAC controls and Building Management System interfaces
- Keep your work neat and professional at every customer site, and talk with customers in a friendly, professional way
- Follow each site's safety rules, PPE steps and Health & Safety standards, and take part in toolbox meetings, site inductions and safety reports
Requirements & Eligibility
- National Certificate in Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning or National Trade Test Certificate Class III Assistant Tradesperson
- At least 5 years of experience with central plant systems and chillers after you qualified
- Without the specified qualification, you can still be considered with 8+ years of relevant work experience
- Demonstrated experience in commercial HVAC and refrigeration, with practical knowledge of chillers, VRF/VRV, DX and chilled water systems
- Strong skills in finding faults, diagnosing problems and making repairs
- Experience installing, commissioning and starting up HVAC and refrigeration systems, and you can read and understand technical drawings and equipment specifications
- You can work on your own and take ownership of the jobs given to you
- Strong customer service and communication skills, with a steady record of professional workmanship
- Willing to be on an on-call roster
- Committed to safety at work and professional conduct on site
- Able to show supporting evidence of your qualifications and relevant work history
