Head Chef

Key Responsibilities

  • Run the kitchen every day and coordinate all activities, from prep through to the end of service
  • Support, train and guide your kitchen staff while they prepare food and during service
  • Cook and check dishes using many different cooking techniques
  • Keep food quality, consistency and presentation at a high level, with careful portion control and production standards
  • Keep work moving smoothly in a busy casual dining kitchen
  • Look after food prep, stock levels, storage and ordering
  • Make sure the kitchen follows every food safety, hygiene and HACCP rule
  • Keep your workspace clean, tidy and professional
  • Share ideas for the menu and suggest new dishes
  • Create a positive kitchen culture where people take responsibility and perform well
  • Work a flexible roster that covers evenings, weekends and public holidays

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Certificate III or Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, or a recognised equivalent qualification
  • At least 3–5 years working in a commercial kitchen
  • Around 1–2 years in a Head Chef or senior Sous Chef position
  • Shown ability to lead and coordinate a professional kitchen team, with good leadership, communication and organisation skills
  • Strong knowledge of modern cooking methods and different culinary styles
  • A track record of steady, consistent results during busy service
  • Strong understanding of HACCP procedures and food safety legislation
  • Professional presentation and high standards of personal conduct
  • Flexible availability on a seven-day roster
  • A current CV and professional referees who can be contacted
  • Reliable supporting information about your identity, qualifications and relevant employment history
  • Sponsorship may be offered to an eligible candidate who meets the requirements that apply
