Do you lay carpet and vinyl for a living? A flooring installation team in Queensland is growing, and it wants two experienced Floor Layers to join its crew around Mackay.
The work is steady. You will move between homes, shops, commercial sites and new builds, fitting carpet and vinyl. Your past jobs need to show your skills clearly, because the employer looks for experience that can be proven.

Key Responsibilities
- Check each work area before you start and measure it carefully
- Use the plans to work out which flooring materials the job needs
- Pull up old floor coverings and get the subfloor properly ready
- Lay broadloom carpet, handling the underlay, gripper, seams and stretching
- Fit carpet tiles in homes and in commercial buildings
- Put down luxury vinyl plank floors
- Cut, fit and finish every material neatly, then add trims, thresholds and edge finishes
- Fix and rectify faulty work when it is needed
- Keep your workmanship at a high level on every installation
- Look after your vehicle, tools and work area so everything stays tidy and safe
- Get along well with customers, builders and other trades, and follow Australian workplace safety and flooring installation rules
Requirements & Eligibility
- A minimum of 3 years' work experience as a Floor Layer
- Hands-on experience you can demonstrate with broadloom carpet and/or vinyl plank
- A strong grasp of subfloor preparation
- Accurate measuring skills and the ability to work from plans
- A track record of finishing flooring installations to a professional standard
- A current driver's licence and a current construction White Card, both held before you start
- Clear communication and good skills when dealing face to face with customers
- Dependable, with the physical capability to do flooring work
- Able to work on your own and also as part of an installation team
- Highly regarded: commercial sheet vinyl experience, including welding, coving and wall vinyl
- Highly regarded: advanced floor preparation experience, plus floating floor or engineered timber installation experience
- Overseas applicants who are suitably skilled and have verifiable relevant experience may be eligible for visa sponsorship
