Do you weld and also work on a lathe? This job could suit you. A crane business in Christchurch, New Zealand, needs a full-time Fitter / Turner and Welder.
The business started in 2017. Its work is cranes and lifting equipment, built new, refurbished or serviced. Most days are in the Christchurch workshop. Some days you support field service. The crew is small. Quality matters here, and so does honesty. Two kinds of applicants fit. Some already hold the legal right to work in New Zealand. Others are ready to undergo the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) process, an employer-sponsored visa.

Key Responsibilities
- Get workshop machines ready (lathes, mills, drills).
- Produce precision crane parts, or rework and mend old ones.
- Weld with certification and fabricate in steel or aluminium when cranes are refurbished or custom-built.
- Solve breakdowns and mechanical faults. Look after mid-to-high-level lifting systems with preventative maintenance.
- Respect New Zealand safety protocols, engineering standards and workshop guidelines every time.
Requirements & Eligibility
- NZQA Level 4 equivalent or a Trade Certificate, in Mechanical Engineering (Fitting and Turning / Fabrication).
- At least 5 years in heavy mechanical engineering, fabrication or plant maintenance since you qualified.
- A background with cranes or hydraulics is highly regarded.
- Accurate with technical drawings and blueprints. Excellent analytical problem-solver. Proactive at work.
- New Zealand legal right to work, or ready for the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) process.
