Farming Manager

Have you managed big farms? An established agricultural business in Western Australia is offering a senior leadership role to someone with a strong background in large-scale farming that can be checked.
Hands-on farm knowledge is only part of it. You also need leadership, planning skills and good business judgement to manage valuable farm assets. You will run cropping, pasture, fodder and irrigation, and help decide where the farm goes next. The employer expects your work to lift productivity, land use, efficiency and financial results.
You will have a lot of freedom, with support from experienced farming, agronomy and livestock teams. The package includes about $150,000 base salary, a new dual-cab vehicle, five-bedroom accommodation on the farm and the chance of performance-based bonuses.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead farm operations across large agricultural properties, and own the operating and financial results
- Manage and grow the farm supervisors, overseers and machinery operators, and lead workforce planning, training, performance and development
- Write seasonal plans based on production targets, resources and conditions on the farm
- Run cropping, pasture, fodder and irrigation programs, including oats, barley, wheat, vetch and irrigated sorghum
- Manage yearly budgets, forecasts, spending and capital investment, and track productivity, crop and pasture results and running costs
- Work with agronomists to improve soil health, pasture establishment and crop results, and keep land management sustainable
- Match fodder supply with the wider livestock and feed operations
- Assess and carry out land improvement and productivity projects, and lead capital works that raise efficiency and long-term asset value
- Use precision agriculture, GPS and digital farm-management tools, plus operational data, to plan and make good decisions
- Build a strong culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement
- Manage contractors, suppliers and agricultural service providers
- Keep communication clear with the internal farming and operations teams
Requirements & Eligibility
- Demonstrated experience at a senior level in farming or agricultural operations
- Proven experience running cropping, livestock or mixed farms
- Strong practical knowledge of large-scale agricultural production systems and modern farming practice, including agricultural machinery
- Demonstrated understanding of agronomy, weed control and chemical use
- Experience with farm budgets, forecasts, production planning and cost control
- Experience with GPS, precision agriculture and digital farm-management systems
- Demonstrated ability to lead and grow agricultural teams
- Strong commercial and operational decision-making, plus strong planning, communication and stakeholder management
- Able to show a history of responsible farm management with measurable results
- A tertiary qualification in Agriculture, Agribusiness or a related field is highly regarded
- ChemCert or an equivalent qualification advantageous
- Current driver's licence required; HR or MC licence advantageous
- Able to meet the Australian employment and visa requirements that apply, with visa sponsorship available for the right candidate
