Farm machines need skilled hands, and experience really counts. A well-established agricultural machinery business in the Esperance area of Western Australia wants a skilled Agricultural Diesel Mechanic. The job is permanent and full-time.
The employer is looking for experienced diesel mechanics whose trade papers, practical skills and work history can be clearly checked.
You will work hands-on with modern farm equipment. Your skills will directly help local farms keep going. Expect workshop jobs and field service. Machines must stay dependable through the hard planting and harvest periods. Tip: prepare an English-language CV, and read the visa points in the requirements carefully.
Key Responsibilities
- Service, maintain and repair tractors, harvesters, headers, sprayers, seeders and other agricultural diesel machinery
- Find and fix mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic faults with modern diagnostic gear and electronic scan tools
- Repair and troubleshoot diesel engines, transmissions and driveline systems
- Do preventative maintenance and inspect machines to catch faults early, before they cause major downtime
- Go out to breakdowns and fix machines in the field during busy farming times
- Finish workshop and field repairs efficiently
- Fabricate, change or adapt parts when needed
- Keep maintenance and service records accurate
- Follow the set safety, environmental and quality procedures
- Talk clearly with customers, co-workers and other stakeholders
- Keep machines ready through planting and harvest seasons, and take part in seasonal on-call duties when needed
Requirements & Eligibility
- Recognised trade qualification in Heavy Diesel Mechanics, Mobile Plant Technology or an equivalent discipline
- Minimum 5 years of mechanical experience after your trade
- Shown agricultural machinery experience is essential, including hands-on work with tractors, combines, headers, sprayers or related farm equipment
- Machinery experience in broadacre cropping, livestock or mixed farming is highly regarded
- Strong skills in mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and diagnostic fault-finding, and able to find faults and finish repairs on your own
- Comfortable working both in the workshop and outdoors in rural areas
- Fluent English communication skills are essential
- Current driver's licence, with HR licence advantageous
- A strong work ethic, reliability and a professional attitude
- Able to give evidence of your qualifications and relevant work experience
- Candidates must be able to satisfy the Australian employment and visa requirements that apply
