Ready to move past standard electrical jobs? In New South Wales, a specialist role suits an Electrician or Junior Electrician keen to learn standby power, generator controls and the critical systems that keep buildings running.

Your practical background and trade knowledge sit at the centre of this job, along with real electrical experience you can prove. Work takes place across commercial sites: generator testing, upgrades, fault-finding and control systems. You will have engineering support and room to widen your technical abilities.

Enjoy problem-solving, equipment and understanding how complicated power setups operate? This role builds specialist experience while you help maintain important commercial infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Keep standby generator systems running by servicing and maintaining their electrical components
  • Handle electrical works tied to modifying and upgrading generators, and assist with commissioning and upgrading systems
  • During building shutdowns, carry out testing of generators and emergency power, including AFSS-related testing
  • Diagnose faults within PLCs, generator controllers and control circuits
  • Troubleshoot and test Automatic Transfer Switches together with associated switchgear
  • Work from single-line diagrams and electrical schematics
  • Complete wiring and testing on control systems, and support telemetry and control-system applications
  • Investigate technical issues and carry out solutions that work in practice
  • Operate independently yet stay in contact with the broader team, and support engineering colleagues on specialist generator jobs
  • Take part in planned night and weekend works
  • Make the most of additional shutdown and overtime opportunities

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Essential: a current NSW Electrical Licence
  • Proven practical experience in the electrical trade, backed by an employment history that can be verified and shows real electrical skill
  • Understands and can interpret single-line diagrams and electrical schematics
  • Strong, hands-on approach to electrical tasks, confident using trade and electrical tools
  • Can diagnose issues and work towards solutions that are practical
  • Comfortable working independently when required
  • Contributes effectively as part of a small team
  • Advantageous: generator controller experience with Deep Sea, Cummins, CAT or Woodward
  • An interest in standby power systems, telemetry, control wiring and PLCs
  • Must live in Sydney or be willing to relocate there
  • NSW Driver Licence (full) is required
  • Able to drive a car with a manual gearbox
  • Can do occasional work at night and on weekends
  • Visa sponsorship may be considered for eligible applicants
