Duty Manager

Want to lead people in hospitality? In Darwin, a licensed venue with plenty of foot traffic is hiring an experienced Duty Manager. When you are rostered on, the venue is yours to run.

Your team works on the front line. You guide them and keep each shift running safely, smoothly and professionally. One shift can include leading people, looking after guests, checking compliance, controlling cash and making fast operational calls.

Staff in hospitality, gaming and functions will turn to you as the most senior person on duty. Guests and problems come to you too. Overseas applicants must meet English-language criteria, so check early whether you will need an English test such as IELTS or PTE.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run every part of the venue while you are rostered on
  • Guide, supervise and support the people working in gaming, functions, and food and beverage
  • Plan who does what each day so every area is covered
  • Take part in building rosters, training and developing staff, and handling performance issues
  • Make sure guests get great service and the venue always looks its best
  • Keep the venue compliant with liquor, gaming, responsible gambling, food safety and work safety rules
  • Open and close the venue by the set procedures, and control keys, security steps and restricted-access areas
  • Oversee tills, floats, cash handling, safe balances and gaming transactions, then reconcile the shift and hand over the money records accurately
  • Resolve guest complaints along with any behaviour or operational problems
  • Respond properly when security incidents happen
  • Help run functions, entertainment and promotional events
  • Keep track of stock, equipment, cleaning and maintenance
  • Fill in shift, incident and operational reports with accuracy
  • Apply venue policies, spot ways to lift performance, and keep the workplace a safe, positive and professional place

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Diploma-level qualification under the AQF (or equivalent) that is relevant, combined with relevant experience of at least one year, full-time-equivalent
  • Or: relevant management experience in licensed-club, hotel or hospitality settings of at least three years, full-time-equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising and leading hospitality teams, backed by strong leadership skills
  • Previous work in a licensed venue, with knowledge of how gaming and licensed hospitality operate
  • Strong background in reconciliation and handling cash
  • Sound grasp of operational controls and security in a venue
  • Excellent conflict-resolution and customer-service skills
  • Good reporting and written communication skills
  • Current NT Responsible Service of Alcohol certification
  • Current Responsible Service of Gambling training, or willing to complete the required training
  • NT Gaming Machine Manager licence preferred; otherwise willing and eligible to obtain that licence
  • Available to work public-holiday, weekend and evening shifts
  • Able to meet the relevant employment, probity and licensing requirements
  • Overseas applicants must satisfy the applicable English-language, qualification, experience and visa criteria. Suitably qualified candidates may be offered visa sponsorship, including eligible applicants who may qualify through an NT DAMA pathway, subject to all required approvals
