Drainage Operators & Drainlayer

Good news if you work in drainage or civil construction. Civil construction teams in Otago, New Zealand are hiring experienced Drainlayers, Drainage Operators, Drainage Labourers, 20T Excavator Operators and Multi-Skilled Operators with Class 4.
The projects are big infrastructure jobs. You may work on drainage, wastewater, stormwater, utilities, earthworks, roading and general civil construction. The tasks change often, so this suits people who like to fix practical problems on site.

Key Responsibilities
- Build pressure and gravity drainage systems, and install and look after stormwater and sewer drainage
- Lay pipelines and the civil infrastructure connected to them
- Work at wastewater pump stations and treatment facilities, and help install water treatment infrastructure
- Use 20T excavators safely on civil sites, plus loaders, compactors and other machines when needed
- Dig, trench, backfill and get each site ready for work
- Do PE welding when required, and confined-space work once it is approved
- Install power and telecommunications utility infrastructure
- Do concrete work and finishing, and help with landscaping and putting sites back in order
- Read the project requirements, finish work to specification and stay productive while meeting quality standards
- Notice problems on site and help find practical answers
- Work as one team with operators, drainlayers, supervisors and other site staff
- Follow health, safety and environmental procedures, reduce unnecessary impact on the environment and community, and keep equipment, work areas and sites at the right standard
Requirements & Eligibility
- Demonstrated experience in civil construction, drainage or a closely related field
- Relevant practical experience as a Drainlayer, Drainage Operator, Excavator Operator or Drainage Labourer, plus proven experience operating construction machinery where applicable
- Current and clean Class 2 driver's licence
- Class 4 licence advantageous; WTR endorsement advantageous
- Experience operating excavators, loaders, compactors or other heavy machinery advantageous
- Strong practical and technical understanding of construction work
- Reliable, with a professional work ethic you can demonstrate
- Can adapt to different projects and responsibilities and solve practical problems
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- A safety-focused approach to every site activity, and a commitment to quality workmanship
- Able to work consistently in a physically demanding construction environment
- Willing to relocate to Otago, New Zealand
- Candidates must have valid New Zealand work rights or meet the requirements for employer-supported visa sponsorship
