Disability Support Worker

Is caring for others your strength? Here is a meaningful job in Western Australia, based in Geraldton and the wider Gascoyne & Midwest region. An experienced Support Worker is needed for one young participant who has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Good support here means being trusted and being steady every day. You will give structured, person-centred help so the participant can grow their communication, confidence, independence and daily living skills. The setting must stay safe, respectful and good for their wellbeing and development.

Shift times are flexible, with daytime and after-school schedules. Eligible international applicants can be sponsored if they show relevant experience, strong communication skills and genuine commitment to disability work. Write your English-language CV with clear details of your care roles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Earn the participant's trust by being consistent and respectful in every shift
  • Shape your one-on-one support around the participant's individual routines and needs
  • Use everyday tasks and skill-building to grow independence, and encourage the participant to take part in meaningful activities that build engagement and confidence
  • Help with communication difficulties and with sensory or behavioural needs; when required, use positive support methods and the right ways to redirect
  • Study the care instructions and Behaviour Support Plans until you understand them, then put them into practice
  • Stay patient and professional when you see the participant's behaviour change
  • Talk regularly with families, carers and others in the support network
  • Complete shift notes, reports and other paperwork accurately

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 2 years' professional work in disability support or another similar care environment
  • Has supported individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and can demonstrate it
  • Background with participants needing help with communication and behaviour management, and confident applying existing care plans and support strategies
  • Clear communication in professional settings, backed by strong English skills
  • Dependable, and committed to giving the participant consistent support
  • Shows patience, understanding and compassion in disability care
  • Works independently as well as positively within a support team
  • Relevant qualifications or practical disability support experience preferred
