Are you a diesel mechanic with real heavy vehicle experience? An employer in Hamilton, New Zealand is hiring a skilled Diesel Mechanic for heavy vehicles. Here, your past work matters most. The job is designed to recognise genuine mechanical capability and verified professional experience.
You will need proven hands-on experience and sound diagnostic skills, plus a real commitment to safe, dependable mechanical work. Some days you will be in the workshop, and some days outside.

Key Responsibilities
- Check over heavy vehicles and work out which repairs or maintenance jobs are needed
- Trace mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults on diesel engines and heavy vehicles, then repair them
- Rely on diagnostic tools and software for accurate fault identification
- Carry out servicing, repairs and maintenance on diesel-powered systems, plus scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance programs
- Get repair jobs done efficiently, to a professional standard
- Record each job correctly on job sheets, service records and maintenance documentation
- Stick to workshop procedures and applicable health and safety requirements
- Keep the work environment tidy, organised and safe
- Update colleagues on faults, repairs and what maintenance is required
- Stay safe whether the job is in the workshop or outside
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 2 years servicing and repairing heavy vehicles, hands-on
- A relevant mechanical qualification and/or demonstrable industry experience
- Full Class 1 driver's licence or equivalent
- Class 4 driver's licence is advantageous
- Strong practical knowledge of how diesel engines and heavy vehicle systems work
- A proven record of fault-finding on mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems, using diagnostic equipment and software
- Strong skills in problem-solving and in communication
- You work in a reliable, professional, safety-conscious way
- Able to fill in service documentation and keep correct records
- Fit for the physical side of manual mechanical duties
- Prepared to complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
- You can successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment
- You can pass a Ministry of Justice (MOJ) check
- You can supply genuine, verifiable documents for your identity, employment and qualifications
- New Zealand work rights already in place, or eligibility for work authorisation sponsored by an employer
