Key Responsibilities
- Be the extra pair of hands for skilled tradespeople and supervisors on infrastructure, commercial and residential jobs
- Get the site ready each day by sorting equipment, tools and materials, and keep working areas clean
- Concrete work: prep, mixing, pouring, spreading and finishing
- Support trades such as plumbing, drainage, glazing, painting, plastering, flooring, roofing, bricklaying and carpentry
- General groundwork: excavating, trenching, levelling and handling materials
- Assist when pipes, fittings, drainage components and other building systems go in, as well as heating, cooling and ventilation pathways
- Measure and cut reinforcing steel bars and mesh, then secure them in position
- Handle hand tools and basic power tools in a safe way that meets site requirements
- Set up safety barriers and temporary structures, prepare the work area, and take away building waste so the site stays organised
- Tell supervisors about any hazards, issues or defects you notice
- Stick to health and safety procedures and wear PPE to the required standard
- Cooperate with the site crew to hit project deadlines and quality targets, and pitch in with other support work as required
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 12 months of experience in construction, with proven practical exposure
- Can demonstrate genuine construction skills and past site responsibilities
- Physically able to do manual work in tough environments
- Good grasp of construction site procedures and safe work practices
- Has used basic power tools and hand tools
- Works well in a team and follows supervisors' directions
- Shows up reliably, stays positive and is keen to contribute
- Ready to learn the construction standards and workplace expectations of New Zealand, and committed to doing so
