A hospitality business in Queensland with a good reputation is hiring a Sous Chef with experience. They want someone with proven ability in the kitchen, reliable leadership and a genuine commitment to quality.

This job suits a chef who is ready to step up. To show you fit, you will need practical experience, trade qualifications, leadership skills and steady performance during busy services. Alongside the Head Chef, you will coordinate what happens in the kitchen, support the culinary team, protect food standards and help the venue's food operations develop.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the Head Chef's right hand each day, and step up to lead operations whenever the Head Chef is absent
  • Coordinate kitchen preparation and service for a smooth, efficient flow
  • Lead the crew when trading is busy, supervise staff and allocate tasks clearly
  • Make sure every plate is consistent in quality, presentation, flavour and portion control
  • Contribute to menu planning, seasonal offerings, specials and creative menu ideas
  • Keep an eye on stock, and assist with buying and supplier orders
  • Support food cost control and keep waste down
  • Store, prepare and handle food to the standards required, and maintain HACCP, food safety, hygiene and workplace safety procedures
  • Coach and mentor less experienced kitchen staff
  • Monitor how clean and organised the kitchen is and how equipment is handled
  • Collaborate with management and the front-of-house team
  • Foster a team culture of respect, accountability and professionalism

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Proven history in a Sous Chef or Senior Chef position, or a comparable senior kitchen role
  • Formally qualified in Commercial Cookery
  • A solid track record in hospitality or commercial kitchen operations, and confident running high-volume services
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervision of kitchen teams
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of preparing and presenting food
  • Knows HACCP plus food hygiene and food safety requirements
  • Strong organisation and time management, plus effective communication and leadership
  • Keeps calm and organised when service is under pressure
  • Reliable, proactive and hands-on, and strongly committed to consistency and quality
  • Willing to own responsibility and contribute to continuous improvement
  • Able to provide evidence of relevant qualifications and professional experience
  • Has Australian working rights or is eligible for employer sponsorship
  • Sponsorship is on offer for a suitable and verified candidate
