Is café cooking your strength? This Café Chef job is with a growing hospitality business in New South Wales. It cares about genuine experience, high professional standards and helping staff develop over time.

You need proof of real kitchen work and a sense of ownership over what you cook. Service happens in the daytime, using good produce and carefully made food. Outside of daily cooking, you are welcome to put forward ideas, support new menu items and make kitchen systems better.

The owners want team members who see this as a career step. With growth, capable people may step up to senior chef and kitchen leadership positions. An eligible candidate who meets the required experience and role criteria can be sponsored, and anyone with unrestricted Australian working rights is also welcome. You must already be based in Sydney to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Turn out café and breakfast plates that are high quality every single time
  • Get the flavour, seasoning, texture and look of each dish right
  • Plate the same portion and style each time, from prep to the pass, including during high-pressure periods
  • Move fast and stay efficient during the breakfast and lunch rush
  • Handle good-quality ingredients carefully and prepare them to a high standard
  • Cooperate with senior chefs and kitchen colleagues, and communicate clearly and professionally from prep to service
  • Suggest specials, seasonal dishes and menu changes that are practical
  • Help develop and refine the kitchen's processes, and find better ways to organise work and speed up service
  • Protect food safety, hygiene and cleanliness all day
  • Monitor stock levels and support inventory work
  • Store and prepare food carefully so less is wasted
  • Have your section clean, in order and fully set up before service
  • Support and train developing kitchen staff
  • Own your duties, sort out issues before they grow, use feedback to keep improving your cooking, and support a respectful, accountable and professional kitchen culture

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 3 years working professionally as a chef
  • Demonstrated work in a café, breakfast or daytime kitchen
  • Track record of performing well in a high-volume service environment
  • Solid hands-on cooking skills and understanding of how to balance flavour
  • Consistently hits the expected food quality and presentation standards
  • Genuinely interested in quality produce and ingredient-led cooking
  • Well organised in prep and time management, and able to juggle competing priorities when service is busy
  • Understands the requirements for food safety and hygiene
  • Communicates well and collaborates with the team
  • Dependable and accountable for professional responsibilities; takes feedback and keeps getting better
  • Brings ideas that go further than simply executing standard recipes
  • Experience in bread, baking or pastry is advantageous
  • Can work weekends as rostered, and public holidays when required
  • Can do early morning starts from approximately 6:00am, with reliable transport to get to those shifts
  • Applicants must currently be based in Sydney
