Ready to take more charge in the kitchen? A busy Queensland restaurant wants a Sous Chef or Senior Chef. You will help lift service, keep the kitchen organised and set the standard for the team.
You will work next to the Head Chef. Together you will lead the kitchen team, keep food quality high, manage the prep and make each day run smoothly.
The best fit is a chef with a proven record in professional kitchens who leads by example. You should be able to show steady service and strong kitchen discipline. When you send your English-language CV, list the kitchens you led or supervised.
Key Responsibilities
- Help the Head Chef run the kitchen each day, and coordinate prep and service for lunch and dinner
- Plan the prep so service runs efficiently
- Own the quality and presentation of every plate, and keep it consistent
- Lead and supervise the kitchen team during service, train staff and keep them following kitchen procedures
- Check stock levels, stock rotation and par levels
- Help keep food costs down and cut waste, and help with rosters so labour is used well
- Keep HACCP, food safety and WHS procedures in place
- Keep the kitchen clean, well set up and ready for service
- Coordinate service needs with front-of-house staff
- Spot problems in service and deal with them quickly and professionally
- Hold productivity and quality steady in high-pressure times, and help build a kitchen culture that is positive, disciplined and cooperative
Requirements & Eligibility
- Demonstrated work as a Sous Chef, Senior Chef or experienced Chef, with a strong background in professional commercial kitchens
- Proven skill in managing prep and busy service
- Demonstrated experience leading or supervising a team, and the ability to train, guide and support other kitchen staff
- Working knowledge of HACCP, food safety and WHS requirements
- Hands-on knowledge of stock control and managing food costs, plus an understanding of kitchen staffing and labour needs
- Strong organisation and communication skills
- A high level of attention to detail and to kitchen cleanliness
- Able to keep standards consistent in high-volume service
- Confident working alone and in a team
- A professional, reliable and accountable attitude
- A positive attitude and strong problem-solving skills
- Available across a 7-day roster, including weekends and public holidays
- Willing to take ownership of how the kitchen performs and the standards it keeps
