Are you an experienced chef ready for a career in Australian hospitality? Stanley, in the Devonport and North West region of Tasmania, has a kitchen that needs a Commercial Chef. You should have a strong track record in preparing and serving food professionally.
The right person has strong technical skills, good kitchen discipline and the confidence to take charge when service gets busy. Your qualifications and work experience should be easy to show and verify.
Day to day, you will help run the kitchen, keep food standards consistent, support menu development and keep the workplace efficient and positive. Translate your certificates into English early if they are in another language.
Key Responsibilities
- Get everything ready before service starts, with solid mise-en-place in each section you cover
- Cook a broad range of dishes to set quality standards with professional techniques, staying consistent from one service to the next
- Plate meals with care for look, portion size and quality, checking food quality from prep to the final plate
- Run a kitchen section on your own when service is busy
- Help plan menus, seasonal dishes and new creations
- Assist with purchasing, ordering and managing stock
- Store food correctly, rotate stock, control temperatures, watch ingredient use and cut waste
- Keep the kitchen spotless and your personal hygiene high, following Australian food safety, hygiene and workplace safety requirements
- Cooperate with kitchen and front-of-house staff, communicating clearly so food goes out accurately and on time
- Help the kitchen run smoothly during high-volume periods
- Train, guide and support junior cooks, sharing cooking techniques and prep methods with less-experienced staff
- Stick to workplace recipes, procedures and operating standards
- Help build a kitchen culture that is respectful, reliable and focused on customers
Requirements & Eligibility
- You hold a recognised Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent qualification
- You have a minimum five years of relevant commercial kitchen experience, with strong, demonstrable professional cooking skills
- You can provide evidence of your relevant qualifications and employment history
- You are confident working independently in a commercial kitchen and can show you can manage a section during service
- You have a practical understanding of menu development and seasonal dishes
- You know stock control, food storage and how to manage kitchen wastage
- You have a strong understanding of food safety and hygiene procedures
- You can keep quality consistent under pressure
- You have strong communication and teamwork skills, and can supervise, train or support junior kitchen staff
- You have good organisation, time management and attention to detail, with a professional attitude and commitment to workplace standards
- You are available to work evenings, weekends and public holidays
- You must meet the applicable Australian employment and sponsorship eligibility requirements
