As a Chef de Partie, your section is your responsibility. You work next to senior chefs and the wider team. You help with prep, service, stock control and checking food quality, so the whole kitchen runs in a smooth, professional way.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take charge of your assigned section each day, including its preparation
  • Take direction from the Head Chef and Sous Chef, and show initiative in your own section
  • Complete mise en place and get ready for service according to the day's requirements
  • Cook, prepare and plate food to a consistently high professional standard, including international-style dishes for a professional dining room
  • Assist with daily specials and seasonal menu prep, and bring your ideas and skills to menu development and daily service
  • Use ingredients with care to keep quality high and avoid unnecessary food costs
  • Make sure every prep area is clean, organised and service-ready, and keep personal hygiene, food safety and kitchen sanitation at a high standard
  • Keep an eye on stock and let senior kitchen staff know which ingredients are running low
  • Help receive and check deliveries, store them correctly and rotate stock in chillers, freezers and dry storage
  • Reduce food waste with careful prep, storage and stock management
  • Stay calm and efficient when service is very busy
  • Join team meetings, training sessions, supplier visits and other workplace development activities
  • Get familiar with New Zealand's local ingredients and produce
  • Speak politely and professionally with guests when needed
  • Get along well with everyone in a diverse, multicultural kitchen
  • Support other team members when the operation needs it, and complete other reasonable duties given by senior kitchen management

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Professional experience as a Chef de Partie or in a similar commercial kitchen position
  • Hands-on experience managing an individual kitchen section
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and cook food to professional standards
  • Strong understanding of kitchen hygiene, food safety procedures and food preparation
  • Can work independently and also contribute well to a team
  • Performs consistently in a fast-paced kitchen
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A reliable, positive and professional approach to work, with strong attention to detail and commitment to food quality
  • Passion for culinary work and a willingness to develop professionally
  • Able to work respectfully within a multicultural team
  • Good time-management and organisation skills
  • Relevant culinary qualifications are advantageous
  • Candidates should be able to provide genuine and verifiable evidence of their professional experience and claimed skills
