Working beside the Head Chef, you will play a direct part in food prep, service quality, how the kitchen is organised and how the team performs. Employer sponsorship is available for an eligible candidate, and there may be pathways towards permanent residence under applicable arrangements. The business also participates in the Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA).
Key Responsibilities
- Back up the Head Chef in the daily running of the kitchen, and lead kitchen operations whenever the Head Chef is absent
- Make every dish match the established quality standards, from cooking to presentation
- Prove your ability on several sections, helping with grill, pizza, pasta and dessert prep
- Get your prep and mise en place done before service begins
- Arrange each station so food goes out quickly
- Hold portion sizes, food quality and presentation steady from the first plate to the last
- Perform well when service is busy and volumes are high
- Leave your work area clean, tidy and ready for service
- Stick to the kitchen's food safety, hygiene and operating rules
- Attend the morning kitchen briefing and pass on what the operation requires
- Work as one team with other chefs, kitchen hands and front-of-house, and give direction to kitchen staff if needed
- Plan your time and use resources efficiently through service
- Behave, dress and serve customers in a professional way
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 4 years of professional Chef experience
- You can demonstrate experience in a comparable commercial kitchen
- You have proven hands-on ability across multiple kitchen production areas
- Grill, pizza, pasta and dessert experience is highly regarded
- You hold a recognised culinary qualification (from Australia or overseas), or can demonstrate equivalent experience in the industry
- You have a strong grasp of commercial food prep and service
- You have experience in a busy, high-volume restaurant or hospitality venue
- When required, you can lead or coordinate the kitchen team
- You are strongly organised and manage your time well, and you communicate well in writing and in speech
- You approach your workplace duties reliably and professionally, and work independently while adding to the team
- You are strongly committed to cleanliness, food safety and quality standards
- Current Food Safety certification is advantageous, and current Safe Food Handling certification is advantageous
- Applicants must satisfy the relevant requirements for employer sponsorship and DAMA nomination
