Indian and intercontinental cooking is your strength? Then this role in the Far North of Northland, New Zealand is worth a look. A local hospitality business needs a Chef with proven experience in both styles.

Real ability in a working commercial kitchen is what counts. The business wants someone who can show genuine experience and who cooks with consistency and confidence. Each day you will prepare and cook food. You will also have a say in menus, kitchen organisation, stock control and food-quality standards.

Prepare an English-language CV that lists the Indian and intercontinental dishes you have cooked and the kitchens you have worked in.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cook Indian and intercontinental food to a steady standard, using professional methods and techniques
  • Take charge of daily prep and keep the kitchen well organised
  • Make sure every plate has the same taste, portion, quality and look
  • Help plan menus, create specials and develop new dishes
  • Watch how ingredients are used to keep food costs down, order supplies and keep stock at the right level
  • Plan prep together with the rest of the kitchen team and keep work flowing during prep and service
  • Follow food safety, hygiene and allergen-management requirements, and keep the kitchen clean, safe and orderly
  • Give practical guidance to other kitchen staff when required
  • Help the kitchen perform consistently when service is busy

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Demonstrated experience working as a professional Chef
  • Proven hands-on skill cooking Indian and intercontinental cuisine
  • Strong food-prep skills from commercial kitchens, and able to handle prep and cooking duties on your own
  • Understands menu planning and how to manage food costs, and knows stock control and kitchen inventory procedures
  • A strong grasp of food safety and hygiene requirements
  • Keeps food quality and presentation consistent, every time
  • Communicates well, works well with a team, and is reliable and organised
  • Willing to work evenings and weekends
  • A relevant cookery or hospitality qualification is advantageous
  • Café or restaurant experience is advantageous
  • Experience creating menu items and specials is advantageous
  • Experience supervising, guiding or training kitchen staff is advantageous
  • Overseas candidates must meet the New Zealand employment and immigration requirements that apply
