Do you cook Japanese food with pride? A growing hospitality team in Victoria is hiring a Japanese Cuisine Chef for a kitchen that is busiest in the evening. They want proven kitchen experience, reliability and a strong professional mindset.

You should be able to show real experience in commercial Japanese cuisine and a habit of getting consistent results. Skills are just one part of it. The employer also values people who are dependable, respectful and positive, and who work well in a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Keep your performance and reliability steady on every rostered shift
  • Cook Japanese dishes to the kitchen's set standards, using its recipes, preparation methods and procedures
  • Finish mise en place and food prep before service, and work through prep tasks efficiently during evening trade
  • Keep food quality, plating and portion sizes consistent
  • Back up the kitchen team when service gets busy
  • Keep food hygiene and cleanliness high, and store and handle ingredients the right way to protect quality
  • Help prepare stock and keep the kitchen organised
  • Communicate clearly with chefs and other staff, and take instructions, feedback and training in a positive way
  • Help create a respectful, cooperative and productive kitchen culture

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Valid Australian work rights required
  • Minimum 2 years in Japanese cuisine or professional kitchen roles that are relevant
  • Proven practical cooking skills from commercial kitchen work, plus a genuine understanding of Japanese food preparation and kitchen operations
  • You stay calm and organised under pressure and work effectively when service is fast-paced
  • Strong attendance, reliability and personal accountability
  • A professional attitude and good discipline at work
  • You communicate respectfully and are strong at working in a team
  • You are positive about learning and professional development, and willing to undertake training and adapt to workplace requirements
  • You can show commitment to a stable, long-term career in hospitality
  • Sponsorship is available for the right onshore candidate if a suitable full-time position becomes available
