Do you love cooking and want to lead a kitchen? A care organisation in New South Wales needs a Chef Manager. You will run the kitchen and guide a team that cooks for older residents.

This job is more than daily cooking. You will be in charge of the team, the menus, food quality, compliance and how well the kitchen performs. The organisation is well established and wants a qualified, capable chef.

Hours are Monday to Friday, 76 hours per fortnight. The salary is $92,820–$109,200, plus salary packaging benefits. The workplace is supportive and has a clear purpose. Tip: prepare an English-language CV that lists each kitchen you have managed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be the person in charge of the kitchen every day
  • Lead the kitchen staff and help them keep service at the same good level
  • Train, guide and support your kitchen team, and keep the kitchen respectful, positive and team-focused
  • Write menus that match residents' nutrition needs and what they like to eat
  • Plan, cook and supervise healthy meals for residents
  • Check how food is prepared, cooked, portioned and presented, and send meals out on time at the right quality
  • Follow strict HACCP, hygiene and food safety rules
  • Order stock and manage food supplies, and help cut food costs and waste
  • Talk with care teams about special diets and each resident's meal needs
  • Listen to what residents say, make improvements where they fit, and share new ideas for menus, processes and the dining experience
  • Keep kitchen records and required paperwork correct
  • Make sure the kitchen runs safely and efficiently and follows the relevant regulations

Requirements & Eligibility

  • You hold a recognised Commercial Cookery qualification
  • Strong work history as a Chef Manager, Head Chef or in another senior culinary job
  • You have managed a commercial, institutional or large-scale catering operation
  • You have shown you can lead a team and supervise staff
  • Strong knowledge of HACCP, hygiene and food safety requirements
  • You can plan and cook meals that are nutritious, varied and high quality, and you understand special dietary and nutritional requirements
  • Strong organisation skills and kitchen management skills
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • You can work on your own and also work well with other teams
  • You care about keeping resident care and service at a high standard
  • Previous aged care, healthcare, hospitality or large-scale catering experience is advantageous
