Are you a qualified chef who loves fast wok cooking? A busy professional kitchen in Belconnen, Canberra, in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), needs a chef with real commercial kitchen experience. The employer cares most about what you can actually do on the line.
Your main place is the high-volume wok station. You will cook Asian dishes that look and taste the same every time. When the kitchen needs you, you will also help on other sections. Good technique and strong kitchen discipline matter, especially when service gets busy.
Have your qualification papers and work history ready to show. If any documents are in Indonesian, get English translations made as the visa rules require.
Key Responsibilities
- Run the wok station during service, from preparation through to cooking
- Cook a range of Asian dishes with the right commercial cooking methods, so flavour, portion size, presentation and quality stay the same every time
- Help out on the grill, fryer, pan and general prep sections when needed, and adapt as service needs move between sections
- Get food prep done quickly, both before service and while it is running
- Follow the rules for food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety
- Help check, rotate and count stock, use ingredients carefully and cut down on food waste
- Keep your station clean and in order for the whole service
- Work closely with the other chefs and kitchen staff
Requirements & Eligibility
- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, or an equivalent recognised qualification
- Minimum two years of commercial wok-station experience that is relevant to this role
- Proven hands-on experience cooking Asian cuisine
- Strong practical skills on wok, grill, fryer, pan and preparation areas
- You can keep standards steady when service is under high pressure
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene procedures in a commercial kitchen
- A professional, dependable and cooperative attitude, and you work well in a fast-paced kitchen team
- Available for rotating rosters, including evenings, weekends and public holidays
- You can provide verifiable evidence of your relevant qualifications and employment experience
