Chef
Hospitality · Bathurst, Blue Mountains & Central West NSW, Australia · Full-Time · $80,000/yr
Do you enjoy cooking and have good kitchen experience? A growing hospitality business in NSW wants a full-time Chef to make its kitchen team stronger.
The employer is looking for someone with real commercial kitchen experience. You should work in a reliable way and have the technical skill to cook good food every time. Service can get busy, so you need to stay calm, use your proven skills and help keep the service professional.
The menu includes Japanese-inspired dishes, and you can also share ideas for new ones. Tip: write your CV in English and list each kitchen you worked in, with dates, so your experience is easy to check.
Key Responsibilities
- Cook Japanese-inspired food that meets the kitchen's quality standards, using suitable techniques so the results stay the same every time
- Do the daily prep: check ingredients, prepare them to the required quality and have everything ready before service
- Look after the taste, quality, portion size and look of each plate
- Use the kitchen's recipes, procedures and portion controls
- Move quickly between kitchen sections during prep and service, and plan your cooking so meals go out on time
- Decide what to prepare first when the kitchen is very busy
- Suggest new dishes, seasonal items and changes to the menu
- Keep your workstation clean, tidy and ready for service
- Watch how ingredients are used, tell the team what stock is needed and help order food supplies
- Work by the rules for food safety, hygiene and safety at work
- Talk clearly with other chefs and hospitality staff, and help build a kitchen culture that is positive, disciplined and professional
