Can you cook great Indian food in a busy kitchen? A hospitality business in Victoria wants skilled Indian cuisine professionals. They are looking for people who cook well, work dependably and truly understand authentic Indian food.
There are openings for Curry Chefs, Tandoor Chefs, South Indian Chefs and Indian Cuisine Cooks. You should be able to show your experience through practical skills and steady results. You also need to work with confidence as part of a commercial kitchen team.
Tip: prepare an English-language CV that names the dishes and cooking styles you know best.
Key Responsibilities
- Cook authentic Indian dishes to a commercial standard
- Use special skills for curry, tandoor and South Indian dishes
- Keep taste, texture, quality and presentation the same every time
- Prepare ingredients and finish kitchen prep before service starts, then handle your cooking duties efficiently when service is busy
- Follow set recipes, preparation methods and quality standards
- Keep strict hygiene and food safety practices in the kitchen, and keep your work area organised, clean and professional
- Work with other kitchen staff so food service runs efficiently
- Help with catering and event kitchen work when needed
Requirements & Eligibility
- Proven experience making Indian cuisine in a commercial kitchen
- Expertise in curry, tandoor or South Indian cooking that you can demonstrate
- Strong hands-on knowledge of Indian ingredients and cooking methods
- Able to produce high-quality dishes consistently, and to keep quality up when working under pressure
- Experience in a busy restaurant, catering or events kitchen
- Good understanding of kitchen hygiene and food safety standards
- Reliable attendance, a strong professional work ethic, and effective communication and teamwork skills
- Having relevant culinary qualifications is advantageous
- Candidates must meet the applicable requirements for sponsorship
