Are you a skilled Carpenter who enjoys practical building work? An established construction business in Victoria needs a capable Carpenter for residential and commercial building projects. You should be able to show real carpentry skill through hands-on construction work, accurate installation and quality results.
The work is varied. It covers structural timber framing, flooring, external works, fittings and repairs. You will need to read plans with confidence, measure accurately and deliver reliable work on site.
Tip: prepare an English-language CV, and if your trade certificates are in Indonesian, have them translated into English where the visa rules require it.
Key Responsibilities
- Study the architectural and construction drawings to plan your carpentry tasks, and use the project specifications to decide dimensions, materials and work sequence
- Mark out, measure, cut and shape timber and other construction materials
- Build wall frames, roof structures, floor joists and sub-floor systems, joining structural timber parts so they line up accurately and are fixed securely
- Install timber door and window frames, the building components that go with them, and prefabricated and timber fittings as the project requires
- Complete external timber work such as fascia, wall cladding and roof sheathing
- Adjust and modify parts so they fit and finish accurately on site, and repair, alter or replace damaged timber structures
- Build and take down temporary timber formwork for concrete works
- Work safely and efficiently with hand tools, power tools and construction equipment, keeping workmanship high and following site safety procedures
Requirements & Eligibility
- Certificate III in Carpentry, or a recognised qualification that is equivalent
- Proven practical experience in residential and/or commercial construction
- Strong working knowledge of structural carpentry, including timber framing
- Experience doing general carpentry, installation and repair jobs, and competence with carpentry hand tools, power tools and related equipment
- Able to read construction drawings and specifications accurately
- Strong skills in measuring, cutting, fitting and installing
- Understanding of workplace safety procedures and construction methods
- Able to work on your own and also contribute well to a construction team
- Willing to meet the relevant Australian construction and site requirements
- Suitable qualified candidates may be considered for visa sponsorship
