Good café managers do more than watch the team. A full-time Café Manager is needed on Bribie Island, Brisbane, in Queensland. You must be able to work the coffee machine well, lead and roster people, and keep service, stock, costs and the customer experience on track.
The employer wants to see a strong work history that is believable and can be checked. Real barista skills and the leadership to run a busy café as your own are also important.
There is room to be creative too. You can help with menus, specials and events that keep customers coming back. Tip: make an English-language CV that shows your management dates clearly.
Key Responsibilities
- Make coffee yourself as a barista and keep the coffee quality the same every day
- Run the café's daily operations as if it were your own
- Coach, lead and organise the baristas and front-of-house staff, and teach them drink preparation, service standards and café procedures
- Prepare staff rosters so the café has the right number of people each day
- Help plan seasonal menus, specials and drink choices
- Arrange live entertainment, pop-ups and private events, working with suppliers, performers and event partners
- Check stock, place orders and keep the right amount on hand
- Watch running costs and help with simple financial admin
- Follow food safety, hygiene and workplace safety rules, and keep the café clean, tidy and welcoming
- Listen to customer feedback, fix service problems, build good relationships with customers and support a positive café culture
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 2 years managing a café or restaurant
- Strong practical barista experience on commercial espresso equipment
- For the Queensland sponsorship pathways that apply: a Diploma in Hospitality
- For sponsorship eligibility: minimum 3 years of Australian hospitality management experience after finishing the relevant diploma
- Verifiable evidence of your qualifications and work history
- Shown ability to lead a team and manage staff
- Strong skills in rostering, organisation and managing time
- Understanding of stock control, cost-of-goods and simple financial processes
- Experience in coordinating events or developing menus is an advantage
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- A reliable, flexible attitude to evening and weekend work
- A current food-safety certification
- Valid work rights, or eligibility for sponsorship
