Cafe Duty Manager

Good cafes need people who are dependable, care about customers and take charge of daily operations. A professional hospitality team in Franklin, Auckland is looking for an experienced Cafe Duty Manager to become a trusted part of the crew.

You will look after customer service, coffee and food, team coordination, stock, cleanliness and other daily cafe tasks. The employer looks beyond job titles. It values verified hospitality experience, leadership, professional conduct, reliability and high standards on every shift.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run the cafe each day and make sure service is welcoming and professional on every shift
  • Give team members their duties and coordinate them so the workflow and service stay efficient
  • Supervise the till, sales processing and customer payments so everything is accurate
  • Oversee the preparation of coffee, drinks and food, plus the preparation and packing of coffee products, so quality and presentation stay high
  • Help customers with questions about products, the menu and service, and handle any concerns professionally
  • Check cleanliness, hygiene and presentation in service and work areas, and keep them organised all day
  • Watch stock levels and organise the refilling of shelves, displays and cafe supplies
  • Help with opening, closing and other daily cafe procedures
  • Guide and support colleagues when trade is busy, and help train team members and keep service standards in place
  • Make sure food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements are met, and represent the business well with professional conduct

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Previous experience in a cafe, hospitality, customer service or supervisory role is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting or coordinating daily cafe operations
  • Practical barista and coffee-making skills are a strong advantage
  • Proven ability to give customer service that is reliable, consistent and professional
  • Clear communication and strong people skills
  • You can lead, support and work well within a hospitality team, and you are confident to take responsibility for operational tasks and make suitable decisions on your own
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn and take on more responsibility
  • Strong work ethic, reliability and professional integrity, with good personal presentation and conduct
  • Able to manage several responsibilities at once in a busy customer-facing setting
  • Understanding of food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements
  • Available to work both weekend days, or at least one Sunday
  • Genuine, verifiable hospitality experience and employment history
  • Must satisfy applicable New Zealand employment and visa requirements; candidates requiring employer-supported visa sponsorship may be considered
